Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp. is launching a new group purchasing arm that would let unaffiliated hospitals participate in its discounted contracts with suppliers.
Known as the Aligned Business Consortium, or ABC, the purchasing organization would go head-to-head with Premier, whose 1,830 members are expected to buy $9 billion in supplies this year, and VHA, with 1,403 members projected to spend $6.7 billion.
Estimated total supply spending by nonfederal hospitals is approximately $53 billion.
