The year 1968 was an auspicious one for the Israel Diamond Exchange. It was 30 years since it had started up as a rudimentary club of diamond dealers in Tel Aviv, and the bourse was already a foundation stone of economic life in the State of Israel, which itself was only 20 years old.
In 1968, Israel hosted the 15th World Diamond Congress of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA).
