Canada has long been the United States' largest trading partner, but many U.S. manufacturers have yet to make major inroads there. Although the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) makes U.S. manufacturers more competitive than ever in Canada, differences in construction and energy requirements present some formidable hurdles to U.S. manufacturers. These obstacles are not insurmountable, however. REHAU has been manufacturing PVC windows in Canada since 1979, and has weathered many changes in the Canadian market and in U.S.-Canadian trade relations. The key to successfully marketing in Canada is manufacturing products that meet Canadian performance criteria.
