British privately owned e-mail security firm Marshal said on Wednesday it had agreed to merge with 8e6 Technologies, a Californian Internet security company, creating a new group with annual revenue of $50 million.

Ed Macnair, the chief executive of Basingstoke-based Marshal, said the groups had been talking for almost a year, and a tie-up had become more and more compelling as the security threat increased.
