In the 1950s, a young Hollywood fast draw coach by the name of Arvo Ojala totally changed the leather used by the stars to the extent that his creation became known as the Hollywood Fast Draw Holster. Ojala took the standard Hollywood Buscadero ring--seen in B-westerns since the 1930s--replaced the very thin leather with heavy-duty cowhide and lowered the holster on the belt by adding a shank. Most importantly for quick draw in the movies, he placed metal lining in the holster drop loop to keep it in place, and also around the body of the holster to allow the Colt Single Action to actually be cocked in the leather before it was drawn.
