It's as hard to pin down exactly who rapper and actress Queen Latifah is, as an artist, as it is compelling to contemplate. As a rapper, she occupies a unique slot in the genre. While her contemporaries, like Salt-N-Pepa, trade off the pure-pop party pleasures of sex and skin, and newcomers like Foxxy Brown and Little Kim are rising to the top rhyming about being proud props in a man's world, since 1989 Latifah's been pushing an Afrocentric, feminist vibe, making statement records with titles like "Ladies First" "Wrath of My Madness," and "U.N.I.T.Y."
