WHEN Penny Chambers started making Scotch eggs five years ago, she thought the quintessential British picnic snack might serve as a useful sideline.
Today, Penny and husband and business partner Neil are a regular feature of farmers' markets and food festivals in Birmingham and further afield.
And within the next few weeks the couple will celebrate the arrival of a very special landmark - the production of their 500,000th Scotch egg.
When they started out in 2003, they had just half a dozen varieties, but the range now tops 30. All are made by hand from the finest freerange eggs and free-to-roam pigs.
