The head of the University Hospitals Health Systems said four top executives of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Ohio, its opponent in multiple lawsuits, provided the swing votes that turned the Meridia Health System into the hands of the Cleveland Clinic.
"We now know that most of Meridia's independent trustees preferred University Hospitals Health System, voting 10-7 in our favor," University president and chief executive officer Farah M. Walters wrote in a memo sent last week to University physicians and employees. The memo followed the Oct. 4 vote by Meridia trustees to merge with the Clinic rather than University.
