Article: Watching wild baboons: how do they hunt for food?

Baboons in the wild eat a lot of different foods. I have seen them do it. I am a primatologist, which means I study monkeys and other primates.

Baboons eat fruit from baobab trees and fruit that looks like raspberries. They eat roots from grasses growing along rivers and seeds from grasses on hills. They eat birds' eggs and lizards. They catch and eat hares and young antelope. They dig up lilies and eat the bulbs. They eat larvae of dung beetles found in elephant droppings. They eat leaves that look like lettuce, and if they live near people, baboons eat whatever people grow in their fields. Baboons love corn and tomatoes.
