A move is underway by a group of California wineries and big-time "wine clubs" to dismantle laws erected by states to regulate direct shipping to consumers. The (so-called) Coalition for Free Trade in Licensed Beverages is pushing this movement. They gave the impression that all wineries are or should be behind their proposals. Let me be the first to dispel the growing myth that this "movement" is endorsed by all producers. Here is one producer who thinks their current proposals are ill-founded and unworkable.
First, let me suggest that the name of the group pushing these changes ought to be changed from a "Coalition for Free Trade" to "The Anti-Wholesaler/Retailer ...
