The Federal Communications Commission is divided over who has jurisdiction over hard-liquor ads on television, although chairman Reed Hundt is standing firm on his claim that the issue is well within the FCC's purview.
During the past week, commissioners James Quello and Rachelle Chong both weighed in by saying that the FCC shouldn't take the lead in regulating hard-liquor ads: Quello said it should be Congress, while Chong said it should be the Federal Trade Commission.
Quello issued a statement last week saying, "This issue is not one which the FCC possesses either the jurisdiction or the expertise to resolve." He suggested that Congress make legislation on ...
