WASHINGTON, D. C.--In the final weeks of the 104th Congress, the Senate considered two bills that would undermine agreements that have protected parks in Alaska for years.
On September 18, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on the bills, both sponsored by committee chair Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska). The first, S. 1998, would transfer up to 29,900 acres of coastline from Lake Clark National Park and Preserve to Native corporations.
