This paper looks at the changing role of trade union with regard to its multiple stakeholders in the wider society: government, employers, members, consumers, community, nongovernmental organisations and other civil society institutions. It makes a case for broader coalitions and wider networking to be able to make an impact. It also argues that trade unions can get across their views by looking at the problems of globalisation from the consumers and wider society points of view than the narrow interests of their members.
