If Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo Ponce de Leon signs into law constitutional changes permitting Mexican citizens to maintain dual nationalities, the action is expected to launch a flurry of activity on this side of the border.
Mexican emigres, who have been living here for years, may finally take the plunge to become naturalized U.S. citizens. Already naturalized Mexican-Americans, who have mourned a loss of cultural identity, may start reapplying for Mexican citizenship. Meantime, U.S. anti-immigrant activists, who see this as an affront and threat, may push to ban dual nationality of all kinds here.
