Although no longer red-hot, the revival of landscape painting is still fashionably warm. Stephen Hannock is a landscapist whose work displays obvious affinities with that of April Gornik and Mark Innerst, but unlike them, he attempts to synthesize postmodern and more traditional landscape concerns.
Hannock's heavy frames, slickly crafted surfaces and stunning light effects recall Innerst, but his obvious knowledge of and respect for the tradition of romantic landscape painting give his works a formal authority and historical breadth.
