Data warehousing is here to stay, but its role within organizations will certainly change as we move into the 21st century. Today, most firms view a data warehouse as a tool for solving a problem. That problem is defined as the inability to provide access to data. The problem occurred because IS failed to design an architecture for data and systems before building business applications. The blame business managers who set unrealistic targets and who fail to understand the value of planning. If city planners took the same tack, roads would not intersect.
