As the ANC moved to rein in its recalcitrant Youth League leader, the breakaway Congress of the People (Cope) found itself in a similar pickle over a "rapists" remark from its own youth leadership.
Yesteray Cope deputy chairman Mbhazima Shilowa moved to allay concerns in the fledgling party after Anele Mda, Cope's interim youth leader, was reported as saying that should the ANC be returned to power, the "government would make raping official".
Mda's remarks to an audience in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape on Friday were interpreted as a thinly veiled reference to 2005 rape charges ...
