The Czech Constitutional Court decided, on 26 November, that "the Lisbon Treaty does not contradict the constitutional order" of the country. This decision opens the way to ratification through the parliament, probably in early 2009. If the vote is positive, Ireland will be the only member state not to have ratified the text, which is supposed to replace the defunct EU Constitution.
The fifteen judges of the Czech high court, under the chairmanship of Pavel Rychetsky, gave their approval at the end of a public hearing, organised on 25 November in Brno, in the south of the country. They were given an extra day to reflect on this important decision. This verdict ...
