Plainville Turkey Farm is converting into a kosher poultry operation and moving its turkey business to a plant in Pennsylvania.
The Lysander farm will shut down in January for two months to remodel its processing plant, according to Hain Pure Protein Corp. Hain bought Plainville for $26.3 million in 2007 from the Bitz family, operators of the poultry business for six generations.
About 90 of Plainville's 200 employees will be temporarily laid off in January and recalled when the modifications are finished, according to James Reed, Hain's chief operating officer.
