Phoenix -- The extended-release form of quetiapine, an atypical antipsychotic, worked better than placebo to maintain the antianxiety effects of short-term treatment with the drug in a year-long study of 432 patients.
Extended-release (XR) quetiapine (Seroquel) is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia but not generalized anxiety disorder. Its short-acting form is approved to treat schizophrenia and manic or depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder.
