NEW YORK -- Bernard Arnault has his first American designer --officially.
Late Tuesday night, Marc Jacobs signed on as artistic director for Louis Vuitton, ending what his partner, Robert Duffy, called "months of negotiations."
Jacobs now has responsibilities for all of the luxury leather goods label's products, including a ready-to-wear line for women and men that will likely debut by the end of 1997.
The move is seen as part of LVMH head Arnault's strategy to increase his business presence in North America and to revitalize Vuitton's image at a time when other venerable leather goods houses such as Gucci and Prada are experiencing explosive growth ...
