Cattle carcass. A bicycle tire. A sarong, and stool: as when the ladle is dipped deep into a kettle of soup, the waters keep churning things up. Her throat is drier than rope. If she spoke, the words would come out frayed. Two nights, third day, she numbers what boils, flies. Sixth, a seventh. Nine.
