I Though we didn't have any concrete expectations when we crossed the border into Croatia, all accounts we had heard were good: it's cheap, you can camp wherever you want, and the people are easy-going and friendly.
This, by and large, has also been our experience--despite the fact that some 'easy-going' opportunity-seeker clipped the cable lock on the back of our van and made off with our two top-end mountain bikes. I'm not prepared to hold it against the rest of the country, as it could have just as easily happened in Zurich. And thankfully, the thieves spared us and left the rest of the van intact; had they broken a window and gained entry into the vehicle, ...
