Article: De Asis outpaces Espana.(Sports News)

The two runners from Mindanao, both studying in Manila, ran as one after bolting away from the main pack early in the race before the wiry 27-year-old from Sultan Kudarat summoned his remaining energy to beat Espana and book a trip ticket to the final for the fourth time since 2005.

De Asis, whose best finish in the 42k was 12th overall in the 2006 edition won by Julius Sermona, clocked 1:13.24 to earn P10,000.

Espana, who had an identical time, brought home P6,000 and the second berth to the Nov. 30 race.

De Asis, who started running at the belated age of 17, first competed in the 5- and 10K events before shifting to 21K four years ago.
