Both the Council and the European Parliament are continuing their review of the defence package and the negotiators are hopeful of concluding it in the coming days. Doing so would constitute an unquestionable success for the European Commission and the Slovenian and French EU Presidencies that have steered the package through the legislative process.
Proposed in December 2007 by the Commission, it is made up of two directives aimed at organising and structuring the European defence market (see Europolitics 3427, 3428, 3568 and 3614).
