As highly consumable commodity items, their price points are attractive to value-seeking shoppers, while their high turns and high gross margins make them appealing to retailers.

For instance, according to Nielsen Co., private label items in the adult incontinence category claimed 31.5% of 2007 sales of $917.2 million through food, drug and discount outlets (including Nielsen household panel data to capture sales of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.).
