In a voice that was clear and certain, Adam Peterson pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree intentional homicide for stabbing Joel Marino to death in his South Side home this year.

But for Marino's family, the question remains - why did Peterson go to Marino's house and why did he kill him?

"It was just a random act as far as we know," said Lou Marino, father of Joel Marino.

Dane County Circuit Judge James Martin sentenced Peterson, 20, a former UW-Madison student and Minnesota native, to a mandatory life prison term and turned him over to the state Department of Corrections. ...
