Three security guards were wounded and a large sum of money was taken when a gang of armed men fired on their vehicle on the M41 highway at Umhlanga Rocks yesterday.
It was one of three heists in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday.
Police Insp Michael Read said guards were taking money to the Gateway shopping centre in a 4x4 when they were ambushed.
"A maroon Mazda double-cab and a white Toyota Hilux tried to push it off the road. Eight men from the Mazda and Hilux opened fire on the 4x4 with AK-47 assault rifles."
It is believed the robbers had been waiting for the vehicle on Umhlanga ...
