Immigration advocates are planning a rally in the nation's capital on Jan. 21 - President-elect Barack Obama's first full day in office - to demand that he begin liberalizing the nation's immigration laws.
The plans for a demonstration, announced Tuesday, are designed to help capitalize on the record number of Hispanic voters who went to the polls last week and supported Obama by a 2-to-1 ratio.
"We marched in the millions" in support of immigration reform, and then "we voted in the millions," said Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights. "With a new administration, voters expect workable solutions."
