WARREN - A ban will not be lifted to allow hundreds of riders in two U.S. Cycling Federation-sanctioned bike races to come through town.
"In my view, it doesn't look like the two sides are going to be able to reach a compromise that we'd be able to do this successfully," Police Chief Bruce D. Spiewakowski said yesterday. "I'm not in favor of it."
The races, held over 15- and 20-mile courses, were begun in 2002. The last races took place in April, but complaints from residents about congestion and traffic problems prompted the Board of Selectmen to review the situation.
