Once upon a time, in 1897, a little girl named Clara attends the Tennessee Centennial and International Exposition in Nashville with her young, red-headed Uncle Drosselmeyer. There, as the story is told in the prologue of artistic director Paul Vasterling's new Nutcracker for Nashville Ballet, she meets a Spanish peasant lady, a Chinese man with a dragon puppet, a French candymaker, a Persian snake charmer, a German in lederhosen holding a nutcracker, and other characters from far away.
The $1.25 million production, with 174 costumes for the cast members (children and adults), will premiere December 12 at the Tennessee Performing ...
