Located about 20 miles north of Nenana, the silty Tanana River winds through the northeastern portion of the Nenana Basin, a relatively unexplored sedimentary basin located about 50 miles west of Fairbanks, believed to hold natural gas. Gas exploration partners Doyon Ltd., Usibelli Energy, Arctic Slope Regional Corp. and Babcock & Brown plan to drill next summer on one of two possible gas targets near the community of Nenana.
