"Dead eye," the boys jeered. "Here she comes. Look out."
Nina bit her lower lip and blinked her eyes to keep tears from pooling.
"Never mind them," said Kate, Nina's best friend. "What do they know? Let's walk around the other way."
Nina was comforted by her friend's words. "That's right," she said. "They can be so juvenile."
"I wish they wouldn't tease you," said Kate. Kate knew how much they made Nina self-conscious about her eye.
Nina had told her about the cancer. By removing the cancerous eye, Nina's life had been saved. They'd discussed the plastic, replacement eye and the numerous eye fittings Nina had had to go ...
