Washburn & Doughty
For about 10 years, Washburn & Doughty, East Boothbay, Maine, has been building a steady stream of Z-drive harbor tugs for Moran Towing Corp., New Canaan, Conn. The Pati R. Moran, however, was the first designed and constructed to operate as the power end of an articulated tug-barge combination. Measuring 12rx36'xl8', the tug is paired up with the Charleston, a new 425'x78'x36', double-hull petroleum barge built at Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. The 118,000-bbl. barge has 10 heated cargo compartments. The tug and barge are joined with 34" Intercon connectors. With a pair of EMD 12-645F7B engines delivering a total of 5,100 hp at 900 rpm ...
