Dec. 16--Within 24 hours of her debut at 26.2 miles, Kara Goucher received a phone call from her coach, Alberto Salazar, at her New York hotel room. He wanted to plan her next marathon -- Boston in 2009.

Her entry into the world's oldest footrace became official today when officials of the Boston Marathon announced Goucher would compete in the race's 113th running April 20. It will come slightly less than 5 1/2 months after recording the fastest marathon debut by an American woman, in 2 hours, 25 minutes and 53 seconds at the New York City Marathon on Nov.2
