Jan. 28--When Marvel Entertainment slipped into bankruptcy last month, it sent shockwaves through Wall Street. But to many veteran readers of the company's comic books, it came as no surprise.
Problems have plagued Marvel for months -- and nearly every one of them can be found in the pages of their comic books, experts said.
"There has not been a consistently high quality to the books," said Mitch Cutler, owner of the St. Mark's Comics store in the East Village. "Certain things get published and you have to wonder why."
