Fox Broadcasting Co. and Time Warner Cable agreed to a 45-day truce in the retransmission-consent battle between the two companies, said Chase Carey, chairman and CEO of Fox Television.
The truce means that five Fox stations in the dispute will not pull their signals from Time Warner systems until after Fox broadcasts the Super Bowl on Jan. 26.
The temporary agreement allows Fox and Time Warner to avoid playing a very dangerous game of chicken. If Fox pulled its signals, about 2 million Time Warner customers would have had the National Football League playoffs, the Super Bowl and The X-Files blacked out from their cable systems.
