When the editors at CJR approached us about creating a column dealing with First Amendment issues that would combine a journalistic and a legal perspective, we were intrigued. We were also hesitant. After all, if there is one subject that receives quite a bit of press coverage, it is the press itself. But as we thought about it more, we saw an opportunity to discuss issues that may otherwise be lost in the public debate about the press.
