Dec. 18--WINSTON-SALEM -- The driver of a pickup truck was killed early this morning when he slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler.
Winston-Salem police have not yet made public the identity of the victim, who is the city's 20th traffic fatality of the year.
According to police, the crash happened at 1:28 a.m. Thursday on the ramp from westbound Interstate 40 to southbound U.S. 421. A tractor-trailer driven by an Ohio man had slowed to about 25 mph to get onto the ramp when a 1993 Ford Ranger pickup truck hit it. The pickup truck driver died at the scene.
