Jan. 29--In a crackdown dubbed "Cyber Strike," the FBI began a series of searches in the Bay Area and around the nation Tuesday after an undercover probe into the illegal duplication and distribution of computer software that the industry calls a $1 billion-a-year crime problem.
Supervised by the FBI's International Computer Crime Squad in San Francisco, the eight-month investigation has focused on the use of computer bulletin boards as the link for pirating some of the most popular program software available commercially -- graphics, netware, utilities, operating systems and games.
