The national economy may be in tatters, but business is looking up for homegrown manufacturer Ortec Inc. following a 30-job, $7.2 million expansion at its Piedmont plant, an executive with the company said Wednesday.

Ortec employs about 200 people making industrial polymers at its plant in Easley and bio-absorbable materials and active drug ingredients at the Piedmont plant. The company also operates a warehouse in the former Isola Laminate Systems factory in Pendleton.
