China Telecom insiders scotch MediaTek acquisition rumors
By Cindy Geng Beijing. December 19. INTERFAX-CHINA - China Telecom is unlikely to acquire MediaTek Inc., a Taiwan-based handset chipset maker, despite local media speculation, a number of high-ranking China Telecom officials told Interfax recently.
"China Telecom is unlikely to acquire MediaTek. I've received no information regarding any such plans," a senior official in China Telecom's PR department, who wished to remain anonymous, said.
High-placed sources from the operator's marketing, IT and business support departments also denied recent reports of a planned acquisition.
