WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- "Stainless steel imports soared 13 percent in the eleven-month 1996 period ended in November and are headed for another record year. This import surge has absorbed most of the healthy U.S. market growth and devastated pricing during the year, particularly in commodity stainless steels," a spokesman for the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA) said today. The total imports of stainless steel in the January - November 1996 period were 519,147 tons, surpassing the 503,595 tons imported during the full 1995 year.
