Gemalto NV is making and selling smart-card products in volumes that a certain hamburger chain might admire. The world's largest smart-card supplier shipped 1.2 billion of its cards last year and has more than 1 billion users around the world. It recorded sales last year of 1.6 billion euros (about $2.2 billion U.S.). The company says its growth this year is running about 10 percent in the face of a weakening economy.
