In an attempt to appeal to traditionalist Catholics, St. Mark Catholic Church in west Eugene will offer something unusual today.
A Mass will be given in Latin, something that hasn't taken place regularly in Eugene Catholic churches for decades.
The 11 a.m. Latin Mass is to be offered once a month at St. Mark for six months on a trial basis, said Father Dick Rossman, the parish priest.
Archbishop John Vlazny asked Eugene priests to offer Latin Masses in order to an attract Catholics who prefer services the way they were conducted before the church modernized its liturgy in the late 1960s, ...
