A co-op at 330 Third Avenue is trying to get Baruch College to reduce the size of its proposed $270 million academic center and perform another environmental impact statement.

"What they are really trying is to get a dialog going and for them to stop work," said co-op spokesperson Tom Butler. The co-op contends the college has been very secretive about the plans for the new 416,000 square-foot building, which would take up nearly the entire block and rise 14 stories above and three below ground. The block is bounded by 24th and 25th Streets and runs from Lexington almost to Third Avenue.
