COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Feb. 10--Southern Colorado's independent banks, seeing a vibrant economy and a chance to steal business from their huge national competitors, are flocking into El Paso County.
Banks from Canon City, Florence and Pueblo all have opened branches in Colorado Springs during the past 1 1/2 years, both to serve customers who commute to or from Colorado Springs and to exploit niches they see in a booming El Paso County economy. They also have been joined by a Sterling thrift that relocated its headquarters to Colorado Springs.
