BATTLE CREEK, Mich., Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- When it comes to eating their oatmeal, most Americans would rather "let Mikey do it."
Oatmeal and oat bran cereals are the primary products allowed to carry a recently approved soluble fiber health claim. The claim for oatmeal, now being touted by some cereal manufacturers reads "Soluble fiber from oatmeal as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease." However, an adult Mikey would need to eat nearly two bowls of oatmeal a day to lower his risk of heart disease.
