It was 75 years ago today that Prohibition was repealed. Alcohol sales were once again legalized, but it wasn't a matter of turning back the clock to the days before the 18th Amendment outlawed alcohol sales and consumption (see also National Beer Wholesalers Association).

Before Prohibition, there was no regulation at all. Then the U.S. went the opposite way -- with no alcohol at all. History proves that this federal "one size fits all" approach to alcohol regulation did not work. Instead, unsafe and adulterated alcohol filled speakeasies and sickened countless people while organized crime filled streets with fear and death. ...
