CHARLES MURRAY, who argued in The Bell Curve (1994) that low test scores among minority students are caused more by nature than nurture, has now extended his argument from race to class. In Real Education: Four Simple Truths for Bringing America's Schools Back to Reality (2008), Murray concludes that efforts to prepare children from working-class or poor families for the Bachelor of Arts degree reflects innate ability: children inevitably inherit their parents' abilities and, thereby, their socioeconomic status.
